JOHN ROBERT ELLIS is an associate in the Baton Rouge office and is a part of the general civil litigation group.
John was raised in Bossier City, Louisiana, and graduated from Airline High School in 1996. Thereafter, he moved to Lafayette, Louisiana and earned his Finance and Master of Business Administration degrees, both with honors, from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. John then earned his Juris Doctor at Appalachian School of Law in 2009, earning Dean’s List honors every semester and serving on the Journal of Law. In 2010, John earned his Master of Laws, LL.M, at Tulane University School of Law, where he served as Chief Editor of several legal textbooks authored by Max Nathan, Jr., Professor of Law.
John has devoted his practice to helping clients in all areas of commercial litigation; commercial transactions; government relations; asset planning; healthcare; and state, local, and federal tax matters. Mr. Ellis has also served as General Counsel for large real estate development companies and Chief Legal Counsel and Director of Military Security for a private government contractor. Over the course of John’s career, he has worked with clients ranging from businesses of all sizes in Louisiana and neighboring states to large private equity firms in New York City.
One of John’s proudest achievements is having personally drafted and proposed a piece of Louisiana legislation by obtaining Louisiana Senate and House sponsors, assisting legislative committees to advance the Bill, and obtaining the Governor’s signature for enactment.
John has proudly served on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Center for Community Advocacy since 2015. John is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Lafayette Bar Association, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International.
John was also recently named to Top Attorneys of North America, Distinguished Attorney by Marquis Who’s Who, Distinguished Attorney by Continental Who’s Who, and Lawyers of Distinction, among others.
John enjoys spending time with friends and family, visiting National Parks, summiting 14,000ft. mountains, playing tennis, and studying dinosaur paleontology.
